The challenge of working from home
My children are only five and three, so it is difficult for them to understand the concept “working at home.” Until a couple of months ago, when I started this at-home gig, “Work” was someplace else. Work was the place Daddy went to every morning and came home from every night. Work might as well have been the moon.
And now I work at home. And it is the best thing that could have possibly happened. We had to sacrifice a little for me to take this position, but I’ve always known that family trumps career any day. I love being home with the kids. Do I sound like I’m trying to convince you? Or myself?
Some days it is tough. One recent morning was a flurry of interruptions. Mom was in the shower and the kids were fighting. I’d get them calmed down and five minutes later they’d come running into the office screaming. Screaming children are perfect little concentration breakers.
But, overall, it is working out great. I’m getting work done, my time is more flexible, the commute is perfect, and I get to see the kids a whole lot more than I used to. What more could a guy ask for? I highly recommend it if you can arrange it.
