It amazed me when my daughter got brains and it is just as amazing to see it happen the second time. My son doesn’t speak a lot but he does use speech as one of his primary means of communication now.

What impresses me the most is how much he understands. He easily understands complex multi-word sentences. I’m not talking about little stuff like “eat your banana.” I’m talking about stuff like “go to mama’s room and ask her to turn on the the television so you can watch sesame street” and “go take off your shoes and put them in the closet, please.” And he does it! Amazing.

I’m convinced beyond a doubt that he only calls noodles “ba-dopa-dope” and fish “pooma” and feet “tickles” simply because he finds it amusing — not because he doesn’t know the real words. He just likes his words better.

I’m growing kind of fond of “ba-dopa-dope” myself. :-)
