I don’t mean to keep harping on MyPublisher just because I had a bad experience with them, but I was looking at their deluxe book product page and noticed something odd. Either the books are absolutely enormous or the girl in the photo is a pixie.

The page proclaims: “It’s New! It’s Huge! It’s Fabulous!” But, come on. They’re not that huge. The photo of the girl holding the book is deliberately setup to make the book appear much larger than it really is. I’ve added some measurements to the photo (link at right) based on the stated dimensions of the book (12x16) so you can see what I mean.

There are two things going on in the picture. First, the girl is standing with her feet apart, her head tilted over, and it looks like she might be leaning backwards. All of this makes her shorter. Even so, if she was standing upright she might be, what, 4'9"? Second, I think the book she’s holding was enlarged or even added after the photo was taken. For one thing, it’s a different aspect ratio (3:1) than the actual books (~2.7:1 wide open). For another, do you think they really found a 4'9" model or is it more likely that they just scaled up the book to make the model appear smaller?

However you look at it, the book is not as large as the picture would have you believe.
