Happy Easter

We awoke this morning to find happy children in our bed. They dragged us out of bed to follow the trail of candies down the stairs, into the living room, through the kitchen, around the dining room table, to two easter baskets of goodies and toys and books. And it was good.

And then we discovered the 1/4" of water in the closet and the laundry room from a burst hot water pipe in the slab underneath the house. It’s not as bad as it could’ve been. There’s no apparent water damage. The timing could’ve been better. Yes, it is expensive to fix.

But after finding a plumber on Easter morning, we carried on. The kids baked cookies with Mom, we prepped for the afternoon picnic with family, the kids blew bubbles in the backyard. The jackhammer chipped away at the concrete. And it was good again.

Unfortunately, I’m sitting here waiting for the plumber to finish while the fam goes to the picnic. But, I’m fairly content knowing that they will have a good time. Hopefully I’ll be able to join them in an hour or so.

It’s strange, but I feel like this will be an Easter morning that we will always remember. Emotions were very strong today, high and low. Somehow, the water problem seemed to focus everything, and the time I spent with my family this morning seemed that much sweeter.

I know I’ll never forget this day.
