Earthquake @ 8:44am

We had another earthquake a few minutes ago. They usually start out very mild so I wasn’t sure if it was an earthquake or just a big truck going by. But when it really started rolling, I got to the kids as quickly as possible. It was a very small one, I’d guess about a 4, so I wasn’t worried about their safety but I wanted to make sure they weren’t too frightened.

I believe this was the first earthquake they’ve been in that they noticed (the last one I felt was on Jan 6 @ 6:35am so they were sleeping). The boy thought it was fun — actually, I’m not sure he even noticed it at all. The girl was definitely scared. It’s not everyday one encounters something that can move a house. I told her that that was nothing compared to some of the amusement park rides she’s been on and we were silly for a few minutes and she was fine. Still, I wonder how much this kind of thing affects her sense of security.

And now she’s just come in to tell me that I need to buy her a new doll because I accidentally stepped on and broke one of hers when I carried her sleeping into her bedroom last night in the dark. She’s fine.

[Edit: They say it was a 5.6 six miles east of Anza, CA, about 90 miles from here.]
