My 2-year old son discovered his shadow today in the Chili’s parking lot. We were walking back towards our car, he’s holding my hand, and suddenly he lets go and stops. I turn around and see him staring at the ground. He appeared to be looking at his feet but then I noticed he was swaying like he was trying to see under his feet. I pointed it out to my wife who came over and waved his arm to show him that he was making the shadow.

He was fascinated and delighted.

The walk back to the car took a long time. I let him stumble back, staring at his shadow, waving his arm in the air while I walked beside him ready to catch him when he tripped.

Son: "Daddy, shadow."
Me: "Yes, that's your shadow."
Son: "My shadow."
Me: "Yep."
Son: "My shadow, my shadow!"
