Axes and trees
Son: Swords are better than axes.
Me: Ok.
Son: And axes are better than trees. Dad, are axes better than trees?
Me: Well, it depends on context. You can't really say which is better without an example of what you're trying to do with it. Axes can chop down trees. But you can burn the wood from a tree to keep you warm.
Son: Huh?
Me: For example, if you wanted shade, a tree would be better. But if you were being driven insane by the pressure of isolation and the spirits of an old, haunted hotel in the dead of winter, then you'd definitely need an axe.
