What, no juice?

July 31st, 2004

Another actual conversation between my wife and my two-year old:

Son: “Want juice.”
Wife: “We don’t have juice. How about milk?”

And here’s where the boy goes into his “mom must have misunderstood what I said (I wonder what is wrong with her?), so I’ll repeat it, but louder” voice.

Son: “Want juice.”
Wife: “We don’t have any juice. Have some milk.”

And then there’s a pause, and my son gets that look on his face. You know the look but can hardly believe it when you see it coming from a baby. Disbelief mixed with a dash of condescension, delivered with a raised eyebrow, chin down, and an ever so slightly open mouth.

Son: “You kidding me.”
