What does “sweet pea” mean?

Me: Why?
Daughter: E calls me “sweet pea.”
Me: Why does he call you that?
Daughter: He crushed me.
Me: He has a crush on you. How do you know?
Daughter: Oh. Yah. K said he has a crush on me.
Me: Do you know what that means?
She shakes her head.
Me: It means he likes you.
She makes a yuck face.
Me: You don’t like him?
Daughter: No! Blech.
Me: “Sweet pea” is like “sweetie pie” or “cutie” or “sweetie.”
Daughter: Ugh.
Me: So E has a crush on you, huh?
Daughter: Yah.

And her youth, it slips away a little more.

Yes, I’m quite familiar with youth slipping away as my daughter is now seventeen years old and will be graduating from high school next year. *sigh*

That’s what I call my kids, “sweet pea”. At least the boy’s got good taste in pet names…he can’t be all bad.
