Four weeks with Ubuntu Linux on the desktop. Part 1: Switching is hard

March 11th, 2007

Over the past few weeks, I’ve found that the saying “it just works” is about as useful as saying that airplanes “just fly.” It’s an easy thing to say until you have to learn to pilot one. Foreign languages also “just work.” But have you ever tried to learn one? Linux is like that. That’s [...]

Windows Genuine Spyware

February 28th, 2007

Damn it, this shit just pisses me off. Advantage for whom? Translation: We think you’re too stupid to know if you have a legal copy of the Windows operating system you are using and/or we suspect that you are a thief. NOTICE: THIS UPDATE FROM MICROSOFT WILL HELP YOU KNOW IF YOU ARE RUNNING A [...]

February 5th, 2007

So I was reading feeds and I couldn’t help notice that TypePad is offline. It happens. If you need someplace to get those bloggy thoughts out of your head, try my online writing app Writer. You can write to your heart’s content in a distraction-free environment, it saves all of your work for you between [...]

LetterPop, now integrated with Flickr

February 1st, 2007

I’m sure some of you know I’m one of the founders of a company called LetterPop (the most ridiculously easy way to make and send beautiful email newsletters). LetterPop!

I’m actually pretty exhausted right now and the site does a better job of explaining what it’s all about better than I could anyway. So. [...]

Feedburner Plugin for WordPress 2.0

February 18th, 2006

I’ve written a new plugin that redirects the main feed and optionally the comments feed to Feedburner.com. Notable differences from similar plugins: It does this without the need to modify templates, setup new hidden feeds, modify .htaccess files, or asking users to migrate to a new feed. It works with IIS and Apache. All existing [...]

Is Netflix worth it?

October 15th, 2005

I’m sure a lot of you are, like myself, a member of Netflix. I love it but I was wondering if it was really worth the expense. Sometimes the DVDs sit on my shelf unwatched for days. Sometimes by the time I receive a DVD I don’t have any interest in watching it anymore. Being [...]

Google Maps is all kinds of great

April 5th, 2005

Google Maps was amazing to begin with. So much easier and natural to use than any other mapping service on the internet. To make it even better they now provide a satellite overlay of any location. Just click the innocuous Satellite button in the upper right corner.
