Laughter is the sound of love

The kids were playing with their friends yesterday afternoon, running through the house, through the yard, feet stomping up and down stairs, and all the while the non-stop sound of laughter echoed through the halls, sometimes far away, a murmur, sometimes bursting unexpectedly into glorious explosions of joy.

It was comforting. Like I’m doing something right. Like the sound of fresh-baked bread crackling on the counter as it cools. Like the smell of shaving lotion and the satisfied feel of a good shave. Like the fit of your wife’s hand in your hand. All of that times infinity.

I scanned this card we got from my son yesterday. He’s very sweet and I love him and I love that he made us a card. Still. It haunts me. Move your mouse over the card to see the inside.

Yes, the inside seems more frightening… at first. But flip back and forth a few times. That flower… it’s watching me. I think he did his best given the material. I honestly can’t see any way of coloring that rabbit to look not undead.

I’m just Mr. Software lately. Every morning my kids ask me about the weather so they can get dressed. This is my first attempt at building a simplified weather forecast page for them.

It’s the weather report for today and tomorrow in a kid-friendly format. Once you’ve got it bookmarked, your kids are just one-click away from knowing what they should wear today. It shows the current conditions plus clothing suggestions for cold, cool, and warm weather. Works for any city in the world. (See the help page for setting up cities outside of the U.S.)

Usefulness varies depending on your weather and children.
