Pre-school

August 13th, 2003

I volunteered at my daughter’s pre-school today. That is, my wife volunteered me and I showed up. I’ve never been to pre-school so it was my first day. My daughter has more pre-school experience than I do.

It was an interesting experience. And it was much more “academic” than I thought it would be. They are actually attempting to teach the kids something during the three hours. Explicitly, the difference between carnivorous and non-carnivorous dinosaurs; letters and numbers; drawing (hand-eye coordination). Implicitly, how to behave in a group.

She’s generally shy, which I find interesting, because she doesn’t act shyly at all at home. Very much like myself in that regard. So far she hasn’t seemed to bond with any of the other students but she’s only been going a couple of weeks.

Overall, a positive experience for both of us.

Pre-school

We’re going to register my daughter for pre-school today. She’ll go two days a week. I have mixed feelings but mostly I feel like she’s growing up too fast.
