PBS Kids is running a self-promo between programs that shows kids and PBS characters playing on a beach. It’s black and white with splashes of green and a catchy tune is playing in the background. I couldn’t find any reference to the song anywhere so I wrote PBS. And they wrote back today with the info! Here it is:

How cool! I just saw the commercial and heard the song, thinking to myself, “is that NRBQ?” What do you know, Google comes through AGAIN. Loved it….bought it for less than a buck at walmart.com….click on the music tab and then search under “uncommon denominators” which is the group
actually, “uncommon denominators” is the album name
I looked all over for this song months ago, too. Wrote to PBS but never heard back. The ad just came on again and I ran back to my computer. Thanks for hooking me up, and I LOVE itunes!
PBS has a good ear for music. I finally got around to Googling the lyrics and it brought me here. I am so glad to finally know who does the song so that I can buy the CD. The song reminds me of Simon & Garfunkel.
nrbq rules and has been doing so for 36 years!!!
The song originally appeared on NRBQ’s 1972 album “Scraps.” Then in ‘86 it appeared on “Uncommmon Denominators” which is a compilation. A great band with a wonderful body of material to discover.
If you liked “Only You,” check out their children’s album of a few years back, “You’re Nice People, You Are.” My kids love it!

I like this new promo, but also liked the old one and now I can’t even remember the old tune! It was a song that used to play on Pop radio stations in the late 90’s. And help would be great! :)
“Only You” is a beautiful song. Listen to other albums by NRBQ. Joey Spampinato sings so sweetly. NRBQ has some amamzing songs and they have been around since the late 60’s!

Just bought it off iTunes – why it’s categorized under “Rock” is beyond me, though. Would think that Folk or Children’s Music would have been more appropriate (especially since it has a Fisher-Price style piano enter at 1:30 into the song). Great song, though…

My kids and & I love this song! We catch it when it comes on after Angelina Ballerina on Sunday mornings. I made my husband watch to firgure out all the stars. I say that it is Tracy Morgan from Saturday Night Live at the end & he says no….hmmm What do you think????
