Gaim Message Blocker plugin

I just released a plugin for Gaim 1.0.2 that blocks arbitrary instant messages based on a set of filters that you can define. I created it to block the extremely annoying “AOL System Msg: Your screen name (x) is now signed into AOL(R) Instant Messenger(TM) in 2 locations.” You can download it from the Gaim Sourceforge plugin tracker.

Will this block AOL system msg on my computer as well as the computer in the other location?

Just yours. And this probably won’t work on any modern versions of Gaim since they’ve changed the Perl plugin support.

Do you plan to update this plugin to work with the newer version of gaim? I am extremely annoyed too and having to see this several times a day currently because of the way I switch internet connections between wired/wireless/vpn etc., and this plugin will be of great help to me. Thanks.

No. Last I heard, Gaim (Pidgin) had dropped Perl extension support and I haven’t got the time to update it.

As of the latest Pidgin (2.0.1), the perl plugin support still exists. I tried your plugin after updating it to use some of the new API and could see it listed in the plugins page, but enabling doesn’t really seem to work. I don’t even get any debug messages. The event name might have changed, but I expected at least the debug message from the plugin_init() (and plugin_load() when enabled) to have appeared, but I didn’t see any messages at all.

NOTE: Using process explorer, I could confirm that pidgin loads up perl58.dll from my activestate perl installation.

For anyone interested in a version that works on Pidgin 2.0.1, I uploaded a version onto the plugin tracker. Find it here:
