If I were president…

February 29th, 2008

Son: If I were president I would cancel school. Me: Forever? Son: Yeah. And then I would find a new job so I could stay at home and play videogames. I can picture it now. “My first act as president is to abolish all forms of education. For my second act, I quit.” Mission accomplished.

About the Technical Reviewer

Received my copy today of the Pro Web 2.0 Mashups book I did the technical review for. Always neat to see something you’ve worked on become real. Also, I hate writing bios like this.

How I found my fitness mojo and lost 38 pounds in 6 months

February 26th, 2008

For the first time since college I’m a healthy weight for my height, I’m eating right, I’m exercising regularly, and I feel terrific. I’m 6 feet tall (182 centimeters). In September of 2007 I weighed 213 pounds (96.6 kilograms). That gave me a BMI of 29 putting me firmly in the overweight category and near [...]

Who are you?

It ain’t fixed unless I’m bleeding

February 22nd, 2008

Wife So how’s the car? Me: Great! All fixed! See? I scraped my finger. Say, do we have any crazy glue? Wife: I don’t think so. Why? Me: Hm. I’d settle for slightly-off-its-rocker glue. Plain ol’ bad-ass glue would work. Wife: Why do you need glue? Me: Ah. Well… while I was putting the car [...]

Special delivery

February 20th, 2008

The Lovely and Talented Wife and I were making sandwiches in the kitchen the other day. Just lunch for us and the kids. I love sandwiches and not just eating them. I love making them. It’s a simple, peaceful activity; one that can be enjoyed alone or with others, often quietly. Unwrapping cheese, slicing bread, [...]

“No Knead” bread is a hit!

February 14th, 2008

It hasn’t changed my life, and I’m a little late to the party, but that recipe for “No Knead” bread from the Sullivan Street Bakery has changed the way I make bread. I’ve made two loaves using this method and it is the best bread I’ve made and, more importantly, it’s the first home made [...]
