Batdad

September 13th, 2004

Protesting for father’s rights dressed as Batman may not be the best way to convince a judge that you are fit to raise kids (via Digital Dad). And it isn’t the first time either. They’ve done this at a Labor Party conference and closed the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Their news site has information about a [...]

Sandbox

September 11th, 2004

Well, it’s not fine furniture, but the first project with my new table saw turned out pretty good. I built a sandbox for the kids. I still need to sand the sharp edges down. And paint it. And add a couple hundredthousand (I found out Sunday that sand is very heavy) pounds of sand to [...]

Has Been

September 10th, 2004

This could be a great album. It’s Has Been by William Shatner. I know what you’re thinking, but wait! It’s produced and arranged by Ben Folds and features Henry Rollins, Brad Paisley, Aimee Mann, Lemon Jelly, Joe Jackson, and Nick Hornby. I’ve heard the cover of Common People and it is fantastic.

Rebirth

September 9th, 2004

You should check out Project Rebirth, a candidate for the WTC Memorial Center. It’s a film project documenting the rebuilding of the site. They have some lovely time-lapse photography showing activity to date as well as live web cams.

Cuteness is nature’s defense mechanism against parents

September 8th, 2004

So the boy asks for something that is entirely out of the question and my wife says, in a teasing way, “Ummmm… I thiiiinnnnk… mmmmmm… no.” To which he immediately responds, “Ummmm… I thiiiinnnnk… mmmmmm… yes!” And suddenly I realize why two year olds are so cute. If a snotty teenager had done that, it [...]

Ignorance is bliss

September 8th, 2004

A group of UK psychologists “found that regular diarists were more likely than non-diarists to suffer from headaches, sleeplessness, digestive problems and social awkwardness.” (New Scientist) One of them, Elaine Duncan of the Glasgow Caledonian University, said, “In fact, you’re probably much better off if you don’t write anything at all.” That’s good advice. I [...]

What hath man wrought?

September 6th, 2004

Happy Labor Day, internet. Of course, there’s no rest for the babied, so in honor of laborers everywhere, we went to Home Depot three times this weekend and spent lots of money. Home Depot is like that. No matter how hard we try, virtually every trip to that store leaves us $100 poorer. The third [...]

Perfect timing

September 4th, 2004

On Friday night, the children and I enjoyed a rousing game of “Duck, Duck, Goose” right up until the moment when they nearly killed me which, really, I’m surprised doesn’t happen more often. My wife was working that night so it was just the three of us. We sat in a circle — although, with [...]

Shut up and write!

September 1st, 2004

Audio Blogging Manifesto (via boingboing): Ask yourself – is the key to making your site more interesting really to add rich media? Or is it possible that if you took more care in your writing, said something passionate, grammatical, interesting, and pleasant to read, it would actually make more of a difference? – Maciej Ceglowski [...]

Word Statistics plugin for WordPress

September 1st, 2004

I’ve created a plugin called Word Statistics for WordPress 1.2 2.0 that displays readability statistics on the post editing screen whenever a post is edited or saved (and you continue editing). The plugin also provides similar functionality to the MovableType plugin MTWordStats. I’ve never used MT or tried the MTWordStats plugin so I can’t really [...]
